
Subject description:
The focus of the subject will be the principles of caring adult clients undergoing surgical treatments and the nurse’s role in managing surgical conditions. The subject will include study of disease conditions requiring surgical management, identifying surgical patients’ needs, health teaching, health promotion, illness prevention, rehabilitation of patients and care of the family. Ethical, social, and psychological aspects of nursing care, developing appropriate attitudes towards patients and family members are emphasized.Course objectivesAt the end of this course, students will be able to;- Assess nursing needs of patients, plan, implement and evaluate of nursing care of adult patients with surgical conditions
- Explain the physical and psychosocial needs of adult patients undergoing surgical treatments
- Demonstrate skills in solving nursing problems of patients undergoing surgical treatments in clinical practice
- Participate effectively as a member of the health team by observing, recording and reporting, planning and implementing care.
- Teach patients and families regarding prevention and control of common health problems in Sri Lanka.
- Apply scientific principles in performing nursing procedures for adult patients with surgical conditions.
